European Risk Regulation

This is an unconventional and interdisciplinary course which will introduce you to the way in which risks are regulated today in Europe.

We will be focusing on those public health and environmental risks stemming from the introduction of new and old technologies (such as GMO food, mobile phones, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, geo-engineering and nanotechnologies) in order to identify the approach currently undertaken in Europe to deal with the hazards stemming from the marketing of these substances.
The aim of the course is to familiarize the students to this growing area of European regulation which currently keeps busy not only big industrial groups, but also international law firms, consultancies and public authorities.
