The Emergence of European Risk Regulation: a Manifesto

Regulations, not only curative medicines and doctors, may reduce risks and save lives.

Although most Europeans don't seem fully aware of it, the EU governs most aspects of European life and touches every single individual in some way. Altough empyrical data are controversial, it is safe to argue that more than 60% of French, Italian, German, etc. legislations currently into force are no longer decided in their respective capitals, but are made in Brussels.

As we prepare to enter a new era of increased confidence in the legitimate role of regulation in society, time has come to devote more attention to regulation as an autonomous subject whose evolution deserves a close scrutiny.

This blog keeps a close eye to the evolution of the European decision-making processes, by focusing in particular to the most important and widespread form of EU regulation in the internal market. Collectively this large body of legislation is known as RISK REGULATION because it addresses the government of risk of harm that may threaten individuals and the environment in the EU.

There are clear signs showing the emergence of a European common risk regulatory model.
